You will need a domain to begin this process. Getting a domain from Cloudflare is a safe bet, they are not expensive, and are renewed on a yearly basis typically.

You will also need hardware in some cases to host some of the replacements here. Email is the only service you can get going away from google/yahoo etc. without any hardware to host on.

Clearly a datacenter setting for your things is ideal for keeping things up and secure. With the correct hardware you can make short work removing a lot of cost in your day to day.

There is also a need for a public IP address. There is really no exception to this, other than one case, and that is a reliable VPN. In most cases, even for a vpn, you will need a public IP.

If you have the hardware, make sure you have a LOT of storage. Redundancy in this case is king. Always backup critical containers and VMs.

You will also want decent experience with php and html, as a lot of tools can be easily made with a well prepared webserver. Ill go over that later!

Preparation

For hosting the services needed there is some preperation that is needed. Server configuration does not need to match, but here is a breakdown of what we need.

A server in a datacenter or home with a public IP that you have access to locally or via VPN (Like wireguard).

For these cases Proxmox is the hypervisor of choice. Free and lightweight and easy to use and prefect for the concauctions we can spin up.

Ensure that you have a sufficient firewall and keep your router as far from the hands of hijackers possible. Randsomware is bad shit.

Setup your proxmox host with as many, as fast as possible cores if you intend on just making a degoogle stack and not a whole lot else.

Write down critical information, primarily before you get backups going. Backups are going to be great if you want production level stuff going, so likley a good idea but not needed.
